I was inspired the other day by a fellow classmates post, just set the timer and write about objects in front of you so that is what I am going to do.
I am sitting in my living room at my parents house staring into the fire. I love this fire place. It stands in the middle of the room and divides the dining room and living room. It is made out of slate that we collects when we were building the house. On the dining room side there is a bench that you can sit on and get warm from the heat that goes through the slate. I love this. Especially in the winter when it is cold outside. Also the beloved spot in front of the fireplace doors is a sacred spot to take naps. During the holidays when everybody is home, it is common to find bodies spread out on the rug in front of the fire snoring. One of the many things I love about my family.
I look to my right and stare over the slew and have a beautiful view of Schweitzer. It is a clear day with the sun shining on what looks like from here groomed runs. there is a dead cotton wood tree that is huge across the slew and we always make comments that dad should go and cut it down, but then there wouldn't be a place for the hawks and bald eagles to perch.
The slew is home to many wildlife creatures. Moose, Deer, Bald Eagles, Hawks, Blue Herons, Beaver, and some times coyotes. As kids my siblings and I would swim in the slew and pretend that we were pirates on this raft that we built out of old barrels and some sort of red carpeted board. That was such a great summer.
There are childrens' books sitting on the rocking chair. My nieces were out visiting Grandpa Fred and they love to show him how their reading is improving and what they know. Dr. Seuss, Golden Books, and Shel Silverstein are among the few that are out.
I just love being home. The memories that I have and the memories that I still am making are so precious. Nothing like it.
